Video Transcript:

In Thailand we have many girls who lack opportunity for proper education. So the nuns have founded Dhammajarinee Witthaya School.

Acharn Yai, Director and Principal: These girls come from different provinces all over Thailand. They come from poor families, or broken homes; some are orphans, violently abused or at-risk of being sexually abused.

Dhammajarinee Witthaya School is the first and only Buddhist boarding school in Thailand.

Bringing TM [Transcendental Meditation] to the school is very useful because we give the students a tool to develop their consciousness. TM is a scientific technique which brings the mind to its most subtle level. It is a meditation technique - It actually allows the mind to transcend faster and helps us understand Buddhist teachings from a deeper level.

Maliwan, age 16: Back home I was a hot-tempered person, but since I learned TM, I feel a lot calmer. I feel that I'm happier, my learning ability is better, and relationships are improved.

Student: Since I've been meditating regularly, morning and evening, I've been paying more attention to the teachers and my understanding is much better.

Acharn Yai: It becomes much easier to take care of them. The aggressive behavior decreases, their grades go up, and they pay more attention to what we teach them. When they have more inner happiness, they soak up whatever knowledge we give, unlike before.

For these girls who are living with us, we have to be second mothers to them. It is our duty to give them warmth, love and understanding.

I would like to see our students grow in the right direction. I want to see them graduate from college so they are able to support themselves.

When they have their own families, I want them to be good mothers for their children, so we can free our society from the vicious cycle it's in today.
