Origin of this meditation technique

The Transcendental Meditation (TM) was introduced in the West in 1955 by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. This technique is as old as time, it originated in the Vedic tradition of India, the oldest tradition of knowledge ever known.

Maharishi Mahesh Yogi is the descendant of an unbroken tradition from masters to disciples back to Shankara. His master, whom he called "Guru Dev" (which signifies "divine master") was the Shankaracharya of Math Jyotir, north India, in the himmalayas, one of the four Maths established by Shankara.
